Book: The Rape of Nanking, by Iris Chang
Print | Email
Many people may assume that this is another Japan bashing book, which many Chinese and Koreans have vritten since the war, but Chang looks at the situation objectively. She explains the events from the perspective of the Japanese Military, Nanking's citizens, Europeans and Americans who were living in Nanking, and then explains why the United States, China, and Taiwan allowed Japan to cover up the story after the war.
This book does not read like a normal history book because it is interesting. I checked it out of the library last week thinking I woul spend the next two weeks reading it, however it only took me one night. Perhaps the fact that the book was written recently, and by an Asian American author makes it such an easy enjoyable read. After reading it, you feel like your eyes have been opened, and that you want to take action!
